After being married for two years, actors Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are calling it quits. Arizona residents may be interested to know that the couple released a statement announcing their divorce to CNN on Oct. 27. The pair met in 2012 on the movie set for “Dark Tide” and had a private wedding ceremony in France in July 2013.
Martinez previously worked as a model and boxer before turning to acting, and he is best known for starring in the film “Unfaithful.” Both actors are 49 and said in their joint statement that they respect each other and want to focus on doing what’s best for their son. They also wished each other well and asked for privacy. The couple’s son was born in October 2013. Berry also has a 7-year-old daughter with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.
Berry’s personal life has been in the spotlight before as she went through a custody battle with Aubry. Martinez and Aubry reportedly had an altercation in Hollywood in front of Berry’s home during this time. Martinez also made headlines when TMZ reported that he shoved an airport employee with a car seat at the Los Angeles International Airport in January 2015. The employee sued the couple for this incident.
It was not reported if the couple has a prenuptial agreement in place. Even though some people may assume that only men pay alimony, a wealthy woman like Berry could end up making spousal support payments without a prenup. If the woman also has a busy schedule and isn’t the primary caregiver of any children, she could also pay child support after a divorce.
